how to fill gap between concrete and house

IMG_6876.jpeg

Hi there,

I recently moved into my new home and after a big downpour realised that there is a very large gap between the slab my hot water unit sits and the house which was filled with water. Also this leaves back to the house a touch which is a concern. How and what could I use to fill this gap? Silicone? Grout? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Re: how to fill gap between concrete and house

Hi @tonya,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it's fantastic to have you with us.

Thank you for your question about filling a gap between your water heater slab and your home.

You'll want to use a flexible sealant that will not crack from the expansion and contraction of the different materials.

I'd suggest grabbing some Abelflex and Sika Concrete Grey Sikaflex 11FC Purform with a compatible caulking gun

You'll see between the exposed aggregate slabs and the wall, that they have used expansion foam. I'd suggest using your Abelflex in the same way. You can place it flat against the wall and drape it over the ground to take up some of the space and reduce the amount of filler required.

Once your Abelflex is in place, fill the gap with Sikaflex 11FC.

This will create a waterproof seal that water will run over instead of sitting in.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
