Hi there,
I have charcoal fence and wanted to change the color to brown (wood). What is the best way?
Thanks
Hi @Bennn
Merry Xmas
I was thinking of changing my fence colors too Using sprayer below to do a big job fast.
Worth the $
OR
Both these have good reputations with the advice to thin the paint 10% approximatly
With easy clean up, only down side is regular fill ups needed but for the price not a deal breaker.
Now try imagine hand brush painting and back breaking work and doing it twice re second coat.
Roller wont get into color bond V groove or the edges of pailings
Merry Xmas, thanks for quick reply.
My most concern is about does the wood color cover the charcoal painted fence?
Hi @Bennn
If you are using your quailty acrilic sunblocker paints they tend to act as a one coat paint system So one coat will do it the new colour will go over the other and look good.
We do two coats as it helps us as we may have missed bits here and there on that note. Wash your fence down with soap suds and a broom for faster cleaning its better than pressure washer. A pressure washer good for a rinse.
Wood colour will go over the grey colour nicly as some times some paint colors want a darker under coat to allow its color to be at its best.
Also spry the first coat in the morning and second coat in the afternoon in plenty of daylight not dawn or dusk as the shadows will hide missed or uneven paint patches. The morning and after noon paint has the sun in different positions and will help you see uneven paint patches from different angles.
Also try painting from A to B morning, then B to A arvo as it will give you new viewing angles and missed spots will be seen more easily.
Even if you do all that you will still find thin paint spots just try to be consistant in you spray movements. Maybe A to B up and down and B to A side to side.
Just spray it have fun
Hi @Bennn,
Just to clarify, is your intention to paint the fence in a brown colour? If so, it’s worth noting the difference between a natural timber colour and brown paint.
Brown paint is opaque, meaning it will completely cover the existing charcoal colour and won't have the natural grain or texture of timber. Instead, it will give your fence the appearance of a solid brown painted surface.
With proper preparation and a couple of coats, there should be no issues covering the underlying paint colour on the fence.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
