Re: cherry blossom leaves with holes … help ?

Hello @yahmed651

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your cherry blossom.

Your cherry blossom tree appears to have significant leaf damage, which is likely caused by a combination of pest activity and possibly a fungal or bacterial infection. The irregular holes and missing leaf tissue suggest an issue with chewing insects, such as caterpillars or beetles, while the discoloured and damaged areas could also indicate fungal problems like shot hole disease.

To address this, start by inspecting the undersides of leaves and along the stems for any visible pests. If you spot caterpillars or beetles, a product like Yates Nature’s Way Citrus & Ornamental Spray, which is a natural pyrethrin-based treatment, can help manage them effectively. If fungal disease is present, especially if the damaged areas have a distinct border or look like small round spots that fall out, a copper-based fungicide such as Yates Liquid Copper can assist in controlling the spread.

Regular maintenance, including removing severely damaged leaves and ensuring good air circulation around the tree, will also improve its health. Water at the base rather than overhead to prevent excess moisture on the leaves, which can encourage fungal growth. If you suspect bacterial infection, prune affected areas with sterilized shears and dispose of the pruned material away from your garden.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
