What timber would be best for a hanging clothes line?

What timber would be best for a hanging clothes line?

I want to build a hanging clothesline to hang from pulleys under our patio. The space is not overly large but it has a high roof, so being able to raise it would allow us still utilise the space.

I have the general design made (rough picture below), I'm just not sure what timber would be the best for it. As there will be clothes hanging the timber would need to be quite strong but also not too heavy as it will need to be raised and lowered.

Hi @Lizze,

The required timber would be determined by how large this rack is going to be, the distance it needs to span and the weight of the clothes to be hung on it. On the lighter end, say if it was max 1200mm wide, you could possibly use 41 x 19mm Pine. A more substantial option would be to use 42 x 30mm or 42 x 42mm.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
