Hello
I am looking for solutions for something to put underneath my 1 year olds small outdoor playground. Something to protect his head but something that is also easy to clean if he has an accident on them. I have seen the wet pour mulch but I’m unsure if it will stain the dark grey concrete that is underneath. I’ve also seen the rubber tiles but wonder if they might be too hard? I like how the wet pour looks but also don’t want something that will stain.
thank you for any advice!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jessie333. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about play surfaces.
For a safe, clean, and durable playground surface, rubber tiles are a great option. They provide excellent impact protection, which is important for your 1-year-old, and are easy to maintain—just wipe them down if there’s an accident. Rubber tiles come in different thicknesses, so you can choose softer options that offer better cushioning while still being firm enough for walking. Additionally, they are non-porous, meaning liquids won’t seep in, and they won’t stain the underlying concrete. While some rubber tiles might feel hard at first, thicker versions offer a good balance between safety and comfort. If you're concerned about aesthetics or staining, the tiles are available in various colours and textures that can complement your space and won’t discolour easily, making them a good long-term solution.
If you're concerned about potential staining from wet pour rubber on the dark concrete beneath, it's understandable. Wet pour is a great option for playgrounds due to its smooth, cushioned surface and safety benefits, but there is a slight risk of staining, especially if the rubber contains strong pigments. However, this can often be avoided by properly sealing the concrete before installation. Sealing creates a protective barrier between the concrete and the rubber, reducing the chances of any staining or discolouration.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
