Hi @rosie,

Our community members would be happy to help.

Can you please tell us where you are based and what kind of garden you have? It will help members to know what kinds of plants you are interested in planting for your front garden.

Thanks,

Jason

Sorry I'm located in Melbourne Victoria, have a few roses, birds' nests and ground covers l'm looking at adding a few more plants but not sure what to plant that is pet friendly.

Re: What pet-friendly plants?

Hi @rosie,

There are plenty of pet-friendly plants you can add to your front garden in Melbourne that will complement your existing selection. Camellias are a great option, providing stunning flowers and glossy green foliage while being non-toxic to pets. Magnolias also make a beautiful feature tree and are safe for cats and dogs. If you're after hardy, low-maintenance plants, Dianella (Flax Lily) is a fantastic choice with its strappy leaves and small blue flowers, while Liriope (Lilyturf) offers similar appeal with its purple flowers and tough nature.

For ground cover, native violets are an excellent pet-safe option that spreads well and thrives in shaded areas. If you’d like to incorporate some edible plants, herbs like rosemary, basil, and thyme are all safe for pets and can add a lovely fragrance to your garden.

Let me know if you have any particular spots in mind or if you'd like suggestions for specific conditions like full sun or shade.

Re: What pet-friendly plants?

Yes, Daphne is well-suited to Melbourne’s climate @rosie. It thrives in the morning sun or dappled shade while needing protection from the harsh afternoon heat. It prefers well-draining and slightly acidic soil.

When planting, it's important to avoid disturbing the roots, as Daphne is sensitive to transplant shock. Keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy will help maintain its health, especially during dry periods.
