Recently I noticed some abnormal area in my garden, looks like some pest affected. Could you please have a look and let me know what it is? And what should I do about it

Re: pest control

Hi @JennyZ.

Can you see any insects around the area that might give any insight into what is causing this?

I can't say I'm certain, but they look like earthworm castings, which are actually a good sign.

If this is the case, I would propose that you simply rake them to break them up so they can be absorbed by the soil.

Allow me to tag some of our knowledgeable members to see if they have any thoughts, @Dave-1, @Noelle, @Noyade.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you very much for your reply. Very appreciated. Yes please share it with your friends. Hope they could give some of their opinions. I saw an earthworm next to it . And when I turned the log over looks like rotten inside. See more photos please. I worry it’s termites

Re: pest control

Hi @JennyZ,

It looks like fairly normal timber decay, but the white things in the second image could potentially be termite eggs.

If you wanted, you could apply some Richgro Termite And Ant Killer Concentrate around this area following the manufacturer's instructions for application.

If you are particularly concerned, I'd suggest contacting a pest control expert in your area for assistance.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: pest control

Afternoon @JennyZ

I thought they look more like termite castings then worm castings. Tho I am no expert and like you have only encounted them when I have beem moving old embeddded timbers.  I think there are some apps around that also may help identify any bugs/worms that are alive. If there is nothing living in the area termite wise then a fair chance they have exhausted and moved onto somewhere else. I had an old lemon tree look like this and they had moved out ages before.
