I have inherited an outdoor pot. It’s black but appears to be terracotta underneath. I’m keen to paint it a lighter colour instead of black. What type of paintings best for outdoor use to use on the pot? I know you can use chalk paint but is there another type of paint that doesn’t require priming or sealing?
Hi @lauravdh,
That's a glazed terracotta pot, so you'd need paint suitable for a glazed surface. It's effectively the same as painting a tile, but I am unaware of any exterior paints suitable for this purpose.
You could try to scratch the glazing with 120-grit sandpaper to provide a toothed surface. Before painting, you should prime the surface with Flood 300g ESP Surface Prep Spray, which would likely provide a better grip for the paint. Then, you could apply spray paint, though I am unsure of how durable it will be.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
