What level laser should I buy?

What level laser should I use to install a security door at my front door?

Re: What level laser should I buy?

Hi @MyHome,

Thank you for your question, and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It is fantastic to have you with us.

Are you installing the jamb prior to hanging a security door? Or is the frame already constructed, the jamb is in place, and you just need to hang it?

I ask because once the jamb is installed, you won't get much use out of a laser level as your door jamb is already set in position and there's no way to adjust the jamb without removing it and packing it out.

If you are installing the jamb or framing the opening, I'd suggest using a crossline laser level such as this Lasertec CX4DG Dot & Crossline Laser or this Ryobi 10m Red Cross Line Laser. They can be sat facing the door opening which will give a perfectly plumb line to set your hinge side jamb with.

For the head of the door jamb, you will need a tripod with a central extension pole or a Ryobi Universal Laser Pole for the Ryobi laser. They can also be sat on something at the same height as the header, but it is difficult to line them up perfectly this way.

Alternatively, a Stanley FatMax 2m And 600mm Spirit Level Combo is perfect for door installation as it gives a long spirit level for the jambs and a shorter spirit level for the header.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: What level laser should I buy?

Hi Jacob,

thanks a lot for your reply.

actually the Woden door frame is there but it is out of square so I need to install a jamb with some packings to make the opening square and then installing a door on that frame.

Re: What level laser should I buy?

Hi @MyHome,

Thank you for the additional information.

Knowing this, the advice I've provided above still stands. A crossline laser level or a combination spirit level kit are your best options.

You want to get everything plumb and square so make sure to start with the hinge side jamb and get it perfect as the door will be attached to it and all other measurements will be relative to this timber.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
