What flooring to use for outdoor bins?

Our rubbish bins are currently sitting on top of soil. Not great when it rains - bins are hard to pull out, gets really dirty etc. What's a good flooring material I could put underneath?. Area is about 1 x 2m

Re: What flooring too use for outdoor bins?

Hi @didanaao,

What I would do is stabilise that surface under where you bins would be placed with some fill shingle and then put some pavers over the top to level the whole thing off, maybe even use some of the finer shingle to form as grout between your pavers.

What you need to do first is either remove what you have (if it can't be compacted) or load the area up with material that can be compacted, this will give you the best base for the pavers.

I hope that this has helped, if you require further advice, by all means ask away, we're more than willing to help you out.

Cheers,

Hello @didanaao

It's wonderful that you've received excellent advice from @MikeTNZ. He just got ahead of me by a few keystrokes! That's exactly what I was going to propose and that is to use Brighton Masonry 400 x 400 x 40mm Charcoal Mypave Paver. to give the pavers extra support, I suggest surrounding it with 150 x 25mm Plinth H4 Treated Pine Sawn Wet 2.4m.

Let me tag our experienced members @Dave-1 and Nailbag for their @Nailbag for their recommendations,

Hi @didanaao

Again agree the recommendation by

@MikeTNZ  but with due respect if your in Australia we don’t have a “shingle” product here. Instead once you have leveled the soil, lay a 50mm bed of washed sand and compact it down. Then position your pavers. Brooming in additional dry washed sand over the joins will seal the gaps between the pavers.

Evening @didanaao

Walks into convo, throws hat in the ring  Pavers for my vote! lol I would go with pavers, and depending on what the soil is like I possibly wouldnt even put down a bed of sand as @Nailbag suggests  I have a LOT of clay in my area and its solid as a rock so when I scrape the topmost soil back I end up with a very solid base that dosnt move. I have laid a lot of pavers around my yard like this and they havnt dipped or shifted. If you do have to dig out and its soft then yes @Nailbag's suggestion is the winner
