We have made our verandah floors from cement fibre sheeting and would like to know what could be used to provided a coloured and textured coating to the sheeting. Also if it needs undercoating first.
Hi @alison6
Nice looking job on the verandah floors.
There are a number of cement paint products to color your area designed to bond with raw cement products. There are some that offer Crushed pebble effects, Often they have limited earthy colors some are just grey. They will need redoing every 5 years or so. Search bunning for concrete Paint . No under coat needed as most designed to lock into the cement directly.
Nu tech paints are the best and longest wearing Oz made concrete paints in a large selection of colors, you will need to search google for them and research the best one for you.
But a nice tile on your verandah will really pop and last a life time .
Hope this helps
Thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.
Hello @alison6
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about what coating to use on your fibre cement sheeting.
Cement fibre sheeting is an excellent base for creating a durable, textured, and visually appealing verandah floor. To achieve a coloured and textured finish, you can use Dulux Texture Full Cover Roll On, available at the store. This product is designed for exterior use, offering a durable, slip-resistant surface, and comes in a variety of colours to suit your style.
Before applying the textured coating, proper preparation is essential. Clean the sheeting thoroughly to remove dust, grease, or debris. Next, use an undercoat like Dulux Precision Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer, which is specifically formulated for cement-based surfaces. This primer ensures the textured coating adheres properly and provides a solid foundation for the topcoat.
To apply, start with the primer and follow the instructions on the label, ensuring even coverage across the entire surface. Once the primer is dry, roll on the Dulux Texture product using a textured roller to achieve a consistent finish. Apply at least two coats for optimal durability, allowing the first coat to dry completely before adding the second.
For a simpler alternative without heavy texture, you could also consider an outdoor paving paint like White Knight Ultra Pave, which can be used with an anti-slip additive for a subtle textured finish. With the right preparation and products, your verandah floor will look fantastic and withstand the elements for years to come.
