For exterior marine varnish, How important is it to thin with turpentine (or mineral spirits? Here in Mexico, 'Aguarras' can mean either possibly, and was suggested at the paint store) At the moment, I have only thinner on hand...And is thinning a necessity?
Hi @havad,
I can only speak for our products, but you'd typically only thin with mineral turpentine or the products specified by the manufacturer. The products well sell are designed to be applied with a brush or roller as is; the only time you'd thin them would typically be if you were spraying the product on.
From Wikipedia: White spirit (AU, UK and Ireland) or mineral spirits (US, Canada), also known as mineral turpentine (AU/NZ), turpentine substitute, and petroleum spirits, is a petroleum-derived clear liquid used as a common organic solvent in painting. So it sounds like mineral spirits and mineral turpentine as the same thing.
