I am proposing to buy SpecRite Pre-Oiled Merbau decking and wanted to know what top coating products are compatible with the pre-applied Feast and Watson Industrial Timber Oil.
Thanks
Michael
Hello @MichaelBrameld
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fantastic to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about overcoating your pre-oiled Merbau decking.
Generally, Merbau decking is left to season for 8 to 12 weeks and even then you still have very good protection on those decking panels. Once the oil has faded away from the panels that would be the time to repaint the deck. I suggest having a look at this discussion - Deck strip, sand and oil by @DIY_Dan.
I suggest sanding the Merbau decking which would allow you to use any oil or stain that you preferred. If you stain the deck now it will not get absorbed by the Merbau panels and would simply run off with the oil that's currently on it. The Feast and Watson range is extensive, I suggest visiting your local store and having a look at the decking sample board finishes.
Here are some handy step-by-step guides:
