So, bear with me, ill update as I progress,
we have just built a house in Western Australia, pool went in before the house. I have already done the glass pool fence, now I’m moving onto the pool area surrounds.
We tossed and turned with the ideas, deck, paving, grass, eventually settled on decking. Personally I hate composite decks. They look plastic and when I measured the temperatures on some surfaces at the pool display area last summer with a infrared heatgun, the ekodeck was about 8 - 10°c warmer than jarrah or merbau.
so we are going for merbau. It’s a low profile deck, minimal ground clearance. I probably went a bit overboard on the ground posts and beams, but rather over engineer than under engineer. Also, I don’t want a “springy” or spongy deck. So I decided to double the joists as per the span tables but space them 75mm apart.
It started out as me wanting a underground pool blanket box. But when the quote came in at $6,000 I decided to give it a go myself.
I laid a foundation for the bricks, leaving the floor area in the box free to allow for rain and pool water to drain into the sandy soil. 100mm of foundation , slightly wider than the bricks, then topped off with bricks & mortar left over from the build. I bought some 40MM Angle and 25MM SHS from Bunnings today to make the trap door and frame to sit on top of the bricks.
More pictures, can only upload a few at a time for some reason.
Great project, many thanks for sharing @dermotmunro. We are looking forward to seeing the finished result. Congratulations on the new house.
