Is this Storm Water Pipe ok?

Hey all. I have installed another storm water grate and I want to know from people here if its should be fine. I think it will. I cant foresee any problems

First a some background of the scenario and the use case

This area around this storm water drain is under cover of a attached to the home pergola. And in the coming weeks are are getting it screeded + tiled + covered with windows and sliding doors so soon it will be fully enclosed

The existing concrete has fall so the tiler suggested to install another drain if we ever do clean the area with a (hose I guess) but I think we will only really be mopping.

I knew there was a underground storm water pipe from the existing storm water drain you see in the background but before I cut the square hole I expected the connecting stormwater pipe to be straight but you can see its on an angle slightly.

So I got a 100mm Snap on Tee and drilled a 50mm hole. I was able to get a 100mm to 90mm reducer and got a 90mm angle pipe connection. This allows me to connect a storm water grate a bit higher and level.

So now all the tiler has to do is cut the desired height and glue it

Now when we do rarely hose or pressure wash the area some water may pool where I have indicated in blue. I just wanted to check if that is fine if water sits there until it dries out? Ill put some silicone in there so no leaks happen. Wouldnt it be just like an S trap pipe with water sitting there?

I honestly it will be fully inclosed so I dont see us using water hoses much apart from mopping the tiled floor

( probably didnt even need to do all this work for a grate but anyway may as well now )

Re: Is this Storm Water Pipe ok?

Hi @PatDIY_Dad,

Apologies for the delayed response.

Unfortunately, anytime you are connecting to a stormwater pipe that connects with council stormwater assets, you will need the assistance of a licenced plumber.

It would be best to call a plumber to at least check what you've done is fine.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Is this Storm Water Pipe ok?

Hi @PatDIY_Dad,

If this pipe discharges somewhere other than a council stormwater pipe, then there are no issues working on it.

As this is not a waste pipe requiring a trap, I don't see any reason to limit the flow.

I would just drill out as much of the pipe as you can to limit any standing water in the pipe and the potential for blockages from leaves or debris.

The only concern I have is that under a heavy downpour, you might have some water come up through this connection, but it would then find its way back into the drain once the water subsides.

Let me know what you think.

Re: Is this Storm Water Pipe ok?

Thanks for the reply

Yeh I originally was going to put a 50mm pipe in there but I found it easier to do it with the snap Tee

Yeh there could be a chance that can happen with water going back up the new pipe hole but we've had heavy down pours already and never see this happening

The closest storm water drain thats collects rain doesnt collect alot of water as it only collects about a 500mm x 15m fall of concrete

Re: Is this Storm Water Pipe ok?

I don't really see any issues with going right ahead then @PatDIY_Dad.

You can always monitor it and make slight changes in the future if required.
