How would you close a gap in my balcony to stop water from falling through?

How would you close a gap in my balcony to stop water from falling through?

When I clean my balcony water goes through the gap and I'd like to avoid any inconvenience to my underneath neighbour.

Gap is 8cm high, the place is a rental as suchcannot be a fixed/permanent solution.

thank you :smile:balcony.jpg

Hello @Lulu19

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about closing the gap in your balcony.

Because you are in a rental property it greatly reduces the number of options in regards to blocking the gap. I propose looking at the Bastion 1200 x 600 x 30mm XPS Multi Use Foam Board. I suggest cutting it into strips to the size of the gap but ever so slightly bigger. This is to give the foam board a tight fit when you push it into the gap.

Unfortunately, putting on silicone or sealers is not possible as it will stain the surface of your balcony. The foam board will greatly reduce the amount of water falling over the edge, but it will not give you a 100 percent seal. The only way to achieve a proper seal is to install more glass along with a permanent frame.

My only other suggestion is to use a steam mop when cleaning your balcony. This will reduce the amount of water being generated during cleaning.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
