How to support tile edges on porch?

Hi, I am soon going to attempt tiling my porch, I have played around with layouts and have decided on what will look best, but before I get started what is it that gets put under the edge to support the tile on the outside edges? Is this brick mortar or just grout?  Thanks

Re: Tile support for porch

Hi @notryan,

Before getting started with the tiling, could you let me know if you're planning to remove the existing pavers or if you were thinking of tiling over them? Removing the pavers would be required if you are adhering the tiles down. Is there a concrete slab underneath?

Typically, for tiling on the exterior of a home, tiles are adhered to a concrete slab using a strong tile adhesive. Specifically, for the joint where the tiles meet the house (like along the porch edge), it's recommended to use a polyurethane sealant like Sikaflex 11FC. This sealant is flexible, which helps accommodate any movement between the house and the slab. The use of this sealant at the joint prevents cracking and ensures a long-lasting finish.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
