How to stop soil erosion and run off on lawn median strip in driveway?

I am wondering what product to use to mitigate soil erosion and run off on the lawn median grass strip in my drive. There were previously massive holes caused by our van. I tried fixing this with cracker dust but it all washed away. I have now filled this with soil from our back yard and I am deciding if I should use geotech fabric secured with weed mats or something similar or something like the geohex structures and fill with gravel to stop the soil washing down the steady decline. The gap is about 62cm wide by about 5 meters.

Re: Mitigating soil erosion and run off on lawn median strip in driveway

Hi @snatgallagher09,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I think your best option is to get the grass growing along the strip. Root structures will help bind the soil together which will in turn prevent erosion. This is a natural way of dealing with the issue that would both look good and be a long-term solution.

You could use lawn seed over the area, or you could remove a little bit of the soil and lay slabs of turf, which are readily available for purchase at your local Bunnings Store. Once the lawn is established, the soil will bind together and erosion will have much less effect on the soil.

Alternatively, you could remove some of the soil, lay geotextile membrane or weedmat with weed mat pins to hold them in place and then backfill with gravel or decorative stones. You could then use Landscape Lock to bind the stones together.

Personally, I think the natural approach of getting grass and its root structures working for you is your best option, but the choice is entirely up to you.

Let me know what you think.

Jacob
