Re: How to stop condensation on a single skin patio?

Hello @pjs68

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about stopping condensation.

If you have enough sarking left, I propose cutting strips large enough to cover the aluminium battens used. I recommend fixing the sarking in place using Ametalin 72mm x 50m Reinforced Insulation / Ducting Tape. By covering the aluminium battens in insulation, it will prevent condensation from forming on its surface.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Afternoon @pjs68

Mmmm Any chance of some further back photros as I am a little confused about the sarking. Or maybe a sketch?

Are you using the battens to hold up the sarking?

Can do tomorrow

the sparking is straight under the roof then the battens are over sarking, the battens are screwed from underneath into 50x50 x 6mm  aluminium angle

cheers

Hi @pjs68

Sorry but I''m unclear as with @Dave-1 as to understanding the issue. If you could send through some wider shots from both top and underside with any arrows to highlight the issues would be of great help.

Re: How to stop condensation on a single skin patio?

Hi Eric

mum thinking a waterproof membrane

on the aluminium battens might work

to stop the condensation

The battens took about 1 hour to dry

I didn’t want to put sarking over the battens as I’m using a construction glue on them for fixing the panels

Re: How to stop condensation on a single skin patio?

Hi @pjs68,

To find a resolution to the issue, I think it's important to understand how condensation works. It's the act of moisture-laden air coming into contact with the cold aluminium surface. This causes the moisture in the air to hit the dewpoint; as a result, water accumulates on the aluminium. By installing your panels and sealing the area, there shouldn't continue to be such an issue with condensation, as the moisture-laden air will struggle to reach the aluminium.

Also, are you sealing in this patio so the moisture-laden air from outside can not enter, if so, once again, that will help resolve the issue.

Re: How to stop condensation on a single skin patio?

Thanks for your help

do think putting a waterproof membrane on the battens would stop it

it’s the last 3

note using Bunnings acoustic panels, not designed for outside, moisture is the only thing that I’m worried about. I did put 2layers of your sarking. It’s the last meter of the roof

Will be enclosed with aluminium shutters

Re: How to stop condensation on a single skin patio?

Since this is a concern, I'd add the sarking over the aluminium and just connect the panels with screws @pjs68. Provided you pop a few additional screws in, they'll hold the sheet in position even without the adhesive.
