I am looking to restore my steps into my outdoor deck. Can someone suggest to me the exact steps and products I will need to do so?

Looking to tackle this for my next project!

Re: How to restore outdoor timber steps?

Hi @Pete112

A timely project.

Those step timbers are on the verge of being risky So  lets find some solutions

Lets replace the wooded risers with some black steel ones (see  below) I would put a pair of rubber pads underneath to so they not siting in ground water  to long.

See the timber strip running under the stairs lip You will need to cut them to properly mount the steel risers against the floor joist behind it for best attachment.

2x Peak Products Black 2 Tread Steel Stair Stringer I/N: 0083610   $35.41

Jack 100 x 15mm Rubber Anti Vibration Squares - 4 Pack I/N: 3961547 $6.20

Combine these  with 2x stair treads  and you have fresh look strong new steps.

240 x 45mm 0.9m Stair Tread H3 Treated Pine Domestic Use - 900mm I/N: 0052940

$45

There are   treated  pine risers  on special order if you prefer all wood. But  around  $250

Hope this appeals to you .

Re: How to restore outdoor timber steps?

Hello @Pete112

Thanks for sharing your question about restoring your outdoor timber steps. The general steps will be to sand down your steps and stringers back to timber and then oil the surface of your timber steps.

Here are some handy step-by-step guides:

In regards to the oil you'll be using, I suggest visiting your local store so that you can see the finish and colour of the oil once it's applied. When you find the colour you're after, I suggest getting a 1 litre can for your steps as you won't need a lot to oil your steps and stringers.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Eric
