How to repair or replace letterbox insert?

Hi,

The inside of my letterbox is damaged and ants have made a huge hole. Is it possible to repair that hole or replace that box?

Re: How to repair or replace letterbox insert?

Hello @hosau

Thanks for sharing your question about your mailbox. One way to repair the hole in your letterbox is to fill it with PC Products 56g Black Epoxy Paste. Before you attempt a repair, I suggest cleaning the inside of your mailbox and making sure that it is free of dust and debris. Wipe it with a damp cloth so that the surface is clean.

Place some masking tape or similar under the hole and mix some of the putty in your hand. Make sure to mix it well so that it activates properly. Place your fingers under the masking tape while you fill the hole with the putty. Make sure to spread the putty in a thick layer and allow it cure properly. You can remove the tape once the putty has cured properly.

Another method is to cut a piece of cement board to the size of the floor area of your mailbox. Put a bead of Selleys 290ml Clear Storm Waterproof Gutter And Roof Sealant - Clear underneath the cement board. Position your board over the flooring of your mailbox. Once in position, put another bead on its sides to secure it in place.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

Re: How to repair or replace letterbox insert?

Hi @hosau I think the easiest solution would be as @EricL has suggested. It will provide a seal from the ants and its on the inside of the letterbox, there isn't any issue with the visual finish, just as long as it's effective.

Evening @hosau

I think @EricL has "Glued" it  I would clean the hole as Eric suggests and then cover the base of the hole and use an expoxy to fill it. As @Nailbag has said it will seal it nicely and really it is hidden from view so wont hurt the asthetics.
