Hi, any advice on how I can fix this area of concrete? It is outdoors with a roof but has water flow over it during rain.
Hi @nicole_rose
Hi that path is fixable if you wish think about its repair.
Basically an easy fix with a little work using some new sand and cement pre mix and laid on to the old cleaned and washed cement path giving it a new surface.
To hold the new cement in place while it is setting its like a cake mix put into a shaped tin until the cake rises and is cooked them we take it off.
The method:
Along the edge of the concrete we need to put a length of straight timber at the same height as the top of the existing path where it is undamaged. This is our mold . Hold the timber in place with heavy wood or bricks or pegs. place objects under the timber at each end to ajdust the height to match the good concrete levels.
We Buy 1 bag of pre mixed Sand and cement from bunnings
You will need waterproof gloves.
Eye protection
and dust PPE protection as you mix it.
In expensive trowel (or use a lump of wood later) Craftright 280mm Plasterers Trowel I/N: 5960138 $6.98
Buy a cheap paint stirrer that is used in a drill will help you greatly. Trojan 100mm Paint Drill Mixer I/N: 0093219 $11.50
And we can mix it in a bucket with a stick or a paint mixer To start with fill half a bucket with sand/cement powder and gradually add water (mix it on a drill paint mixer is better and faster adding small amounts of water 100mL aprox at a time to a toothpaste like consistancy)
Great now wet the concrete path under repair and tip our cement on to it. Tradies use trowels and can level this area by eye and you can too.
So use a trowel or a trowel size lump of wood
And spread the concrete mixture out filling all the hollows right up against the timber edge forrn work. Once you level the new concete use light sweeping movements to remove any eye sore blemishes try not to do this for too long. Often as you moveto take out a blemish you might put in two more so ligth short strokes and stop.
Your goal is a neat flat new concrete surface, Congrates job well done.
Leave the form work in place for a week at least so the concrte hardeness.
Tip clean up tools asap with water
Fun fact
Concreting taught me how to mix a cake and cook it. One day I will try using flour not cement powder lol
