Other than hiding it with pot plants, is there a way to remove rust from places like outdoor metal poles and sheds? And is there a way to prevent it?
Solved! See most helpful response
looking at the post its too late for rust removal as its rusted through in several places and the rust on the shed looks as though is rusted through as well
for the shed some rust kill will slow it down but at some point in time the sheet will need replacing as for the pole there are a number of methods to repair which means taking the pole down for the repair and in turn needs welding a new section in. preventing rust good luck with that
A good replacement for the pole is to have it made from stainless 360 it will never rust. If you go to your local stainless tube supplier they could put you onto some one to produce a pole for you. Take a photo of the pole take the dimensions of the pole
Hello @Joan_J
Thank you for sharing your question about how to remove rust.
It's great that you've received fantastic advice from @r23on. I totally agree with his recommendation. If the post has rusted through, your only choice is to replace it with a new one. However, the damage to your shed is not so severe. I recommend using Bondall 250ml Ranex Rustbuster Rust Converter on the damaged area.
I suggest using Rust-Oleum Paint and Prime in the closest colour you can find to paint the area. If a hole has appeared in the shed wall, you can use Consolidated Alloys 50mm x 3m Weatherproof Byute Flash Flashing Tape to cover it up. Please keep us updated, we look forward to seeing the rust spots repaired.
