Re: How to remove old gaff tape from my aluminum patio ceiling.

Hi @Beanbag_28,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Begin by attempting to manually peel off as much of the tape as possible. If the tape has become brittle over time, consider using a plastic scraper to lift the edges without scratching the aluminium. The Pro Renovator 50mm Plastic Scraper is an excellent tool for this purpose.

If the tape resists peeling, applying heat can soften the adhesive, making removal easier. Use a hairdryer or a heat gun on a low to medium setting, keeping it in constant motion to prevent overheating the metal. Once the adhesive softens, try peeling the tape again with the plastic scraper. Remember to wear gloves if you choose to use a heat gun, as they can get surprisingly hot.

After removing the tape, some adhesive residue may remain. To tackle this, use De-Solv-it Sticky Spot and Stain Remover. It would be worthwhile to apply this product in a small inconspicuous test location before committing to broader use, as there is some slight potential for paint to be removed. If there are no issues, apply a small amount to the residue, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it off with a clean cloth.

Once all adhesive residues are removed, clean the area with warm, soapy water to eliminate any remaining solvent or cleaner. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.

Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
