Re: How to prevent dogs from climbing rock wall?

Hello @torilee

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fantastic to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your dog.

There are several methods to train your dog from climbing the rock wall. You could set up a low voltage Electric Fence or put a shock collar that activates when they get too close to the rock wall. The less aggressive way would be to use Multicrop 400g Keep Off Dog and Cat Repellent. Make the rock wall so offensive to the dog that it will not even get close to it.

Other methods include putting up a slatted screen, covering it with Merbau panels, and building a wire fence to prevent the dog from getting a foothold on the rocks. These techniques include putting in an Ultrapost for you to mount the screens and fence. If you have any other questions we can help with, please don't hesitate to post them.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to prevent dogs from climbing rock wall?

Thanks Eric  can you please suggest a weatherproof slatted screen and ultrapost that can be affixed to the rock wall and/or concrete base and sustain 2 x 45kg dogs jumping on it.

Re: How to prevent dogs from climbing rock wall?

HI @torilee

It all depends on how long the rock wall is. I suggest using Protector Aluminium 2400 x 1200mm Black Flat Top Boundary And Garden Fence Panel. There is the option of getting the 900mm high one but if your dogs are energetic they will easily jump the fence. You'll have to use Protector Aluminium 50 x 50 x 1800mm Black Inground Fence Post With Cap along with Protector Aluminium 38 x 25mm Black Panel Brackets - 4 Pack. The fence post will have to be cemented into the ground.

However, if you're after a temporary solution, you can use SpecRite 1800 x 902mm 84/44mm Fence Panel Merbau Slats in combination with Whites 180cm Premium Black Ultrapost. You can tie the panels to the post using Whites 0.90mm x 75m Galvanised Tie Wire Wirepak. The Ultraposts can be hammered into the ground and the panels tied to the posts. Just a reminder to make sure that the Merbau panel is installed off the ground with a minimum gap of 50mm to the bottom.

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your rock wall fence.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Protector Aluminium 940 x 1840mm ACP Large Leaf Decorative Panel Framed - Black

Thinking panels of the above installed horizontally on top of the rock wall.

Can the panels be fixed to existing Colorbond and Flat Top fences?

Re: How to prevent dogs from climbing rock wall?

Hello @torilee

It all depends on how thick the rock wall is. You can use Carinya Make-A-Bracket to link the panel to your existing fence. But the brackets have a maximum length of 600mm. However, you'll still need to secure the bottom of the panel to the ground. You can still use the Ultrapost in combination with the Protector Aluminium 940 x 1840mm ACP Large Leaf Decorative Panel Framed - Black. The other option is to use treated timber posts and drill the panel directly into the timber.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
