How to patch large hole in gutter?

Hello, the plumber won't be here until 26 November. Please advise a temporary solution to tide me over until then. Is Byute flashing tape the best to use in my situation? I basically want to minimise leakage without it affecting anything else.

Also, is the flashing applied on the inside or the outside of the gutter, or both? I'll be getting a handyman but just checking.

The whole front gutter will be replaced. The gutter abuts the car port gutter which is OK, but this too will have to be detached & replaced as well so whatever I use mustn't affect the removal / reattachment of the car port gutter. Thanks.IMG_20241103_133039.jpgIMG_20241103_134517.jpgIMG_20241103_134540.jpg

Re: temporary solution to this large hole in gutter: plumber won't be here for another 3 weeks

Hi @LorenClayton,

Byute flashing tape should serve as an effective temporary solution for your gutter leak. It's recommended to apply the flashing tape on the inside of the gutter, directly over the hole, to help seal it and prevent water leakage. If needed, you can reinforce the seal by adding a layer of tape to the outside as well.

Unless the leak is causing significant damage to the area below the gutter, it should be fine to wait until your plumber arrives later this month for the full replacement. However, addressing the issue with flashing tape now will prevent any potential worsening of the situation.

Once the gutter is replaced, the tape will likely be removed, so it shouldn't interfere with the removal or reattachment of the carport gutter. Taking this step now is a sensible precaution to minimise water damage.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
