I am looking to paint an external cement rendered finish wall on our home. Please advise the the paint finish I should be selecting to ensure it last quite a while.
Hi @mbjarj,
It's important to use a good quality exterior paint similar to Dulux Weathershield. This paint is specifically designed for exterior surfaces and offers excellent durability, protecting against harsh weather conditions, UV damage, and mould growth, which is essential for a long-lasting finish on cement-rendered walls.
If the wall hasn’t been previously painted, proper surface preparation is key to ensure the best result. For new or unpainted cement render, it’s important to first apply a primer like Dulux 1L PRECISION White Sealer Binder. This will seal the surface, improve adhesion of the topcoat, and prevent any chalking or flaking over time. Once the primer has dried, you can apply two coats of Weathershield, ensuring even coverage.
Also, it’s worth considering using a low-sheen or matte finish for exterior rendered walls, as these finishes tend to hide imperfections better and give a more contemporary look. If you prefer a slightly glossier look, a satin finish can provide more washability while still being durable.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
