How to makeover patio pavers?

Hey Team,

I’m attempting to give my parents covered in patio a make over. I need help with understanding what I can do to cover the brick pavers. As you can see in the photo, the gaps between each paver is quite wide. I was hoping to find a solution that would fill the gaps and then cover the whole floor to create a smoothish finish (not sure if that means cement, epoxy or resin).  Please if anyone has done something similar, can you please share what you did or I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Re: Patio pavers make over

Hello @247Happy

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your patio pavers.

The advantage of patio pavers is that they allow for micro movement on the surface and is not visible when it happens. Only if there is a severe movement of substrate will you see cracks form on the pavers. If you were to put concrete or self-levelling products such as the Lanko 20kg 133 Pro Level Floor Leveller any movement underneath will reflect on the surface of the concrete. I recommend removing the pavers and re-doing the foundation of the patio to prepare it for concrete.

Let me call on our experienced members @Nailbag and @Dave-1 for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Patio pavers make over

Good Evening @247Happy

Pavers allow for movement as @EricL  has said. I think you would end up with a lot of cracks over the area if you used any material to fill and level.

You could pull up the pavers and lay a low deck, tho you may need to dig some soil out.

Easiest option would be to paint them in a modern grey colour and change the surrounding walls with a more modern look. I have seen timber sqares that you could lay over the surface tho not sure how level your pavers are. Ikea timber square decking Will show a range of options. Tho looking and walking over the ones install they are on a very level surface.

Some new type surrounds such as a mirrored door Hume 2040 x 820 x 40mm Entrance Door 10Lite Clear Glass with mirror styled glass squares. or even fake window frames with a mirror behind them mounted on the wall.

Box out the roof support posts, make them square and larger so they give the impression of solid beams.

Change the lighting, if you have fluros, change to LED's or even a different style of lighting.

Fake green trellis look good against brickwork and fencelines as well (Bunnings sells a large range)\

Re: How to makeover patio pavers?

Hi @247Happy

to my knowledge there isn't any easy solution to this. Using a self-levelling compound is not only going to need a winning Tatts ticket to pay for enough to cover that large area, most of it will fall within the gaps or run down the slope of the floor area. There are professional surface coating companies who may have a solution if the existing pavers are stable. Otherwise those oiptions @Dave-1 suggested from IKEA work very well and very easy to install.
