Re: How to install shade cloth on vege patch?

Afternoon @VijayWani

I have used Electrical conduit to arc over my garden beds and insert them into the ground. For you I would use

Jack 12 x 600mm Reinforcing Bar - 5 Pack Hammer thes ehalf way into the ground.

DETA 20mm Medium Duty Rigid Conduit - 4m (I used orange as I had it leftover from another project.) these slip over the conduit ends, you cant go for a too shallow arc as the conduit wont want to bend easily.

And then Coolaroo 1.83 Wide Rainforest Garden Shade Cloth 50% UV Block – P/Mtr to throw over the hoops.

I have also cable tied a long length of timber or you could use wire/rope between each hoop at the high point to help stop sag.

I would use cable ties to attach the shade cloth to the end hoops and bricks to weigh down the excess.

The only concern I had using bird netting / shade cloth is that it could stop pollinators from doing their job.

Good Evening @VijayWani

This was the first way I tried it, two pieces bent corner to diagonal corner, the way I described it would have been better.

As you can see the weight did pull it out of skew.

Five to six months later it was still standing. Issues I had is that I just wedged the conduit into the garden bed, no reo stakes. It did protect my planst from the birds. But because I had gone diagonally it was harder to maintain weeding.

Note these are from 2017-2018 and I stopped using the bird netting afterwards as I was concerned a little bird would get caught in the netting when I wasnt around. Shade cloth comes in various strengths and is a lot finer so no issues for the animals/birds.

Re: How to install shade cloth on vege patch?

Hello @VijayWani

It's great that you've received fantastic advice from @Dave-1. My only suggestion is to use cable ties to make sure that the poles will stay in place should you decide to assemble them with horizontal supports.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
