How to identify between Jarrah and Merbau?
I bought a new property with a deck in it -and I am hoping to identify this deck from your help. I am planning to stain it and there are different product based on its type. I have attached some photos and I hope it helps. First photo from deck (with previous stain) and second photo from excess (without stain). Many Thanks !

Re: How to identify between Jarrah and Merbau?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @adykish. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about decking.
It can be quite difficult to differentiate between Jarrah and Merbau, as they are very similar in appearance. From the first photo, the deck does appear to be more similar to Merbau, but I can't be 100% certain.
Since you're planning to stain the timber, if you're happy with the current colour, you could opt for a natural timber oil that contains minimal or no colourants. This will help enhance the existing hue without altering the appearance too much. If you’re aiming for a specific finish, make sure to choose a product suitable for the timber type, but generally, a natural oil is a safe choice for both Jarrah and Merbau.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
