Hi there, we are refurbishing our deck with fresh timber and would look like a white or silver grey look, how do we achieve this? Grateful for any advice.
Hi @alla,
Thank you for your question about choosing materials for your deck.
You could use this Ekodeck Alpine Ash / Ironwood Composite Decking with the lighter side facing up. This might be a good option for you as it is a composite decking product that will not require any upkeep besides cleaning.
You might like to have a look through the Cabots Timbercolour Guide which shows a variety of products and colour options that should suit you.
As you are looking to achieve either of two very light colours, you're going to need to use a light-coloured timber such as this 90 x 22mm Decking H3 Treated Pine
This Cabot's Beach House Grey Water Based Deck And Exterior Stain could be a good option for staining your timber.
You could also use Cabot's Timbercolour Deck & Exterior Paint which comes in a variety of colours that you might like.
Let me know what you think.

Hi Jacob, thanks so much for replying. Thanks for the tip regarding the stain. We do want to use real timber and we’re wondering if there is a lighter wood we can use, because most of the wood Bunnings supply for decking is so dark.
Hi @alla,
@JacobZ has mentioned one of our lighter decking timbers which is 90 x 22mm Decking H3 Treated Pine. Alternatively, we do have Ironbark decking, which is much lighter than Merbau.

Hi again @alla.
I just wanted to add another note about white/grey decks in general. Unless this is a paint, stain or whitewash, then it would typically be a deck that hasn't been oiled in several years. A weathered grey deck is right on the precipice of splintering and needing replacement. Although it is quite a nice look, it's also an indication of a deck that hasn't been cared for. The trick here is recreating this look on your new timber with a translucent paint or stain. I'd recommend you check out the Cabot's Beach House Grey Water Based Deck And Exterior Stain Jacob mentioned and test some in an inconspicuous location.

Thanks Mitchell, we’re taking a look at iron bark. Thanks for the tip!
