How to fix scratch on fire flue?

Hi guys, our poor plumber has accidently scratched the flue, any ideas on how we made the scratch less noticeable?

Good Afternoon @laurat1989

A pain but fixable

I just had a look at these White Knight 500ml Pot Belly Black High Temp Heat Resistant Paint I was thinking to repaint the whole top as being the easist but maybe the spray cans could work. I would use maybe the end of a plastic pen (the rounded end, not the writing end) to gently run along the scratch to remove the high points of paint and maybe metal. I was thinking a fine grade wet and dry sandpaper but think that maybe it will be adding to the issue. but if you do then maybe using the same end of pen with a strip ovver the width of the end and gently buff.

I like the pot belly paint over the spray paint only because I have used it years ago. And yes it did smell highly the first time or two it was hot.

Re: How to fix scratch on fire flue?

Hi @laurat1989,

It's great to see @Dave-1 has already jumped in with some advice. His advice is basically the same as what I would recommend.

Very lightly wet sand the scratch with some 400 Grit Wet And Dry Sandpaper. You're just aiming to remove any raised metal; you're not trying to remove paint.

Once sanded, use a fine craft brush to apply some black high-temperature paint.

Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
