How to fix rotten balcony rails?

I am repainting my wooden balcony rails and found there is some soft spots in the wood.
Any suggestions

Revamping your balcony rails is definitely doable. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of your balcony rails? This will give our members a chance to assess its condition. We can then make recommendations on how to proceed.
