How to fix plastic water tank with leak from valve?

IMG20241124144225.jpg

Hello, I have an Italian Water tank and had a slow drip during the week. It is up on a wooden ledge and the wood was wet...there is a brass looking valve at the non tap end, silly me stuck my finger in that today and now water is pouring out.. how would I fix that.. I have plugged it with blue tack to slow it down for now.. When I stuck my finger in the hole, a foam type substance came out. The valve is the size of a 10 cent piece..thanks

Re: How to fix plastic water tank with leak from valve?

Hi @shàron,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a method of plugging the hole that doesn't involve removing all the water first. If you can't drain the tank, you'll likely need to contact a plumber with experience working with rainwater tanks.

If you drain the tank, then you can use a Tank Outlet in a suitable size to seal the hole.

Check out steps 13, 14 and 15 in How to install a water tank for some guidance on how to install the tank outlet.

Once the outlet is installed, use a Thread Pipe Cap in the corresponding size to close the outlet. Use thread tape around the outlet's thread before installing the cap to create a strong waterproof seal.

Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
