Hi - I have a front gate to my house that has a piece of wood that has split and needs replacing and a latch reattached.
Any advice on doing this?
eg. - If I take the wood off, can I get a similar sized wood from bunnings (eg cut to similar size?)
- looks like the wood is fixed with a drilled in deck screw or similar - any advice on type to use for the replacement
Thanks
Anthony
Hi @Anthony_,
Thank you for your question.
The repair should be fairly straightforward. You'll have to start by removing the metal latch and the small piece of timber it was mounted to.
I assume that the fence rail has split where the tongue needs to be attached to meet with the latch. Likely, you can simply move both the tongue and the latch down, meaning the small piece of timber that is mounted to the rail is not needed.
If you remove this timber and see no way of reattaching the tongue to the rail, you can grab a 75 x 16mm 1.8m Fence Paling to use as a replacement for this timber. It can be cut in-store to a minimum length of 300mm.
You can use Zenith 8 - 10 x 40mm Galvanised Countersunk Rib Head External Timber Screws to attach the paling to the fence and the tongue to the paling.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
