Hi,
I have a balcony that is leaking into the room below it. The balcony has a water proofing membrane (on a concrete terrace) applied approx. 14 years ago14 years ago and has worn through in some areas. I have added close up visuals below. I am seeking advice on how to best re-waterproof this.
Hello @Damo2
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your balcony.
Looking at the photo you posted it appears that the material used to cover your balcony has deteriorated. This includes the waterproofing that was used on it. I'm afraid that covering it with a new layer of waterproofing is not going to repair it.
I suggest engaging the services of a registered builder and having it assessed. You can then ask for a quote on what it would cost to repair the balcony cover. It appears to be a sheeting with fibre reinforcement and was possibly rendered on the surface. The builder will probably test the entire balcony to see if the whole area needs to be repaired.
In the meantime, I suggest covering the area with builder's plastic to prevent rain from going through. You can use pot plants or heavy items to keep the plastic in place.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
