How to fix a broken down pipe?

Hi all, we accidently broke the down pipe. Photo as shown. We would like to diy it, but what other materials would we need to get other than the pvc pipe, for eg, some sort of a connector?

Also is there a way to repair it without having to do a small excavation?

Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hi @chezzalee,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. We're pleased to have you join us and trust you'll get loads of help and inspiration for all your projects around the house and garden. Feel free to post anytime you need a hand.

The first thing to note is that this is considered plumbing work so we would always recommend engaging a licensed plumber to ensure safety and compliance. But I believe one of our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts @EricL has shared the general steps here: How do I fix broken downpipe connections? Please have a read and let us know if anything is unclear or you have any specific questions.

Thanks,

Jason

Re: How to fix a broken down pipe?

Thank you Jason. Yes I have contacted a few plumbers, but the cost is way too high to repair a fairly old house. I'm just wondering if there's a way to just place a pvc covering over thr broken area and seal it with the pvc cement? I don't need it to be permanent,  probably just need it to last for another 3 years? Lol.

Re: How to fix a broken down pipe?

HI @chezzalee

Oh, how I wish there was a patch repair kit for PVC downpipes. It would have saved countless hours of disassembly, remeasuring, reconnecting and reconfiguration. If you've had a moment to read the discussion regarding - How do I fix broken downpipe connections? The parts and steps mentioned are exactly what you need to do to fix your broken downpipe. I even made suggestions on how to protect your PVC pipes from your line trimmer.

My best advice is to test fit everything before you start to glue parts together.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
