Re: filling window gaps

Hello @leanne_Err

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about filling the gap near your brick window.

Because the gap is quite large and irregular using an ordinary filler will not work on it. I suggest engaging the services of a professional and having it properly repaired. It also appears that some of the mortar around the window has deteriorated so that will need to be repaired as well.

It's possible that trades person will remove an interior panel inside your home near the window so that they can get access to the back of it. They will probably use mortar to seal the gap next to the window. Once they have sealed the gap, they will follow it up with a silicone seal from the outside.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to fill gaps between bricks and windows?

Good Morning @leanne_Err

It does appear to have a largish gap along the edge and also the base has mortar missing. Do you have water damage inside?

I would also suggest to get a professional in to at least recommend the next steps. Are the other windows of you house like this?

Hey Dave

Thank you for your response.

Yes other windows are similar. There is no water damage. The house is 20+years old.

What type of professional tradesperson should I speak to?

Regards

Leanne

Hello @leanne_Err

I suggest engaging the services of a builder as they will be able to repair the gap in your window.

Re: How to fill gaps between bricks and windows?

Hi @leanne_Err

This looks like the result of replacement window/s with incorrectly sized reveals (frame) being installed. This is commonly seen as a deeper window over a standard depth costs a lot more for the customisation. In this particular photo the width of the window is too wide as its sitting behind the brick not within. The issue now isn't not just cosmetic, but allows rain water to enter the internal wall space.

I would run a thick bead of matching colour silicone along the frame edges where it meets the brick and under the bottom rubber strip. It will be either Woodland Grey or Monument. If you're not able to, a plumber or decent Handyman could.
