How to build low-level deck frame?
wanting assistance on a deck frame ive got about 200mm to work with before i have to start excavating,
deck is 3.3m x 8m
wanting frame to be low so there is airflow so bearers and joists are not sitting near ground
can the bearers be something like 90x45 x2 screwed back to back together then bolted/screw to some sort of steel stirup in a concrete footing ( steel footing brackets look to be way slimer then timber footings)
then joists would be say 90x45 every 450mm apart
can i use even 70x45 for joists and h4 square posts for bearers
OR
would it be alright to do single layer frame just using 140x45 timber

Re: How to build low-level deck frame?
Hi @Trentc,
It looks like you already have your footings at 1000mm apart, which is fine. Your 140 x 45mm joists span 1600mm between the bearers, and this is within span requirements.
I'm happy with your layout.

Re: How to build low-level deck frame?
Great making some progress,
would my design of footings work as I’ve drawn a picture or is there a better way?

Hi @Trentc,
That will work, but I'd probably go for two coach bolts at an angle as per below. You could also use Landscape screws.

Thanks!!
the section I’ve highlighted would I need footings or would it be enough if that timber is dynabolted along the brick work?

Re: How to build low-level deck frame?
Is it double-brick or brick facade @Trentc? Bolting a ledger board onto single brick does not comply with the construction code, as it's not designed to take a lateral load. The bolts must extend through the brick and into the structural timber subframe.

Re: How to build low-level deck frame?
It would be just a single brick wall, I’ll just do stumps and sit it off the wall slightly then
