Looking to expand the verandah to the fence. House was built in the 80's so not much has changed on the outside
Want to use underneath as storage for gardening tools, lawnmower etc. Would like to be able to use the area as an outdoor entertaining area with seating, bbq, table chairs and hopefully look out to a pool.
Would like help with where to start, do i lay concrete where the grass is, do I tile over existing?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Tanyad. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about extending a verandah.
Since this project involves expanding an elevated structure, it’s important to consult with a draftsperson or engineer to create plans for the extension. They will help you design a structure that’s both safe and practical, and they’ll advise on how to incorporate storage underneath, while ensuring the verandah can span the required distance.
When it comes to the foundation, laying concrete over the grass could be an option, but you’ll need to make sure the base is stable and level. If you're planning to tile over the existing surface, that might work too, but it depends on the condition of the current flooring and whether it's strong enough to support the new structure. Given that this will be an elevated construction, it’s best to enlist professionals for the actual build to ensure everything is safely supported and properly constructed.
For the outdoor entertaining area, you’ll likely want to think about weatherproofing, suitable flooring for outdoor use, and making sure there's good drainage. A professional will help you with the materials and setup for both the verandah extension and the storage area underneath.
