How to build a horizontal timber fence using Colorbond posts?

Hi everyone 

I want to build a front fence like below using colourbond posts and timber panels horizontal. 

I'm curious is the posts would be able to support the timber? And what timber would be best?

I had looking at plinths as alternative. However I think slot is 50mm on the aluminium posts as would need to have a vertical post either side to make it fit firm. That would be on inside so would still look OK. 

I had also thought to space out the plinths with an inside/outside pattern overlapping.
