How to build a cat enclosure?

Screenshot 2024-11-20 161123.pngScreenshot 2024-11-20 161108.pngI am building a cat enclosure for my client and she want a 10x 10 m enclosure. The structure will be a net from her fence to the facia board of her house. I am having challenges on how to secure the cat netting on the fence as well as on the facia board. Also how is the net joint to each other in case i want to join? I found these photos online and is what i need. Screenshot 2024-11-20 161020.png

Re: How to build a cat enclosure?

Hi @Benk

I don't have any photos but I built one with similar build requirements as yours. Fortunately the facia boards were timber, so I used those same shade cloth fasteners @Dave-1 suggested starting at one end then pulling the cloth as tight as I could and securing the other end before fixing central nail gangs. Then I sandwiched that edge with 70 x 35 treated pine using 60mm batten screws. At the fence end I essentially did the same fixing the TP to the fence posts, then the shade cloth, but covered this side with flat 3mm aluminium strips.

Re: How to build a cat enclosure?

Thanks Nailbag. You have nailed it as @Dave did. I will share photos when we are done. My concern though is the colurbond fencing. It looks not to be strong enough to hold the tension. I am thinkng of putting down some timber posts (90x45) to tie in and help it out.

Re: How to build a cat enclosure?

Well done on a really neat job @Benk You have done an impressive job of keeping the netting stretched perfectly across the entire area.

I reckon you should post that as a project to share with the community as there will be plenty of others wanting to learn from your experience and design technique.
