How to attach joist hanger?

I’m needing to put up 70 x 35 x 2.1 metre framed timber between posts but I need joist hangers to hold them in place what is the best solution for this size timber

Re: joist hanger

Hi @Johno1990,

Thank you for your question.

70x35 timber is not typically used as part of a structural flooring system, and because of this, joist hangers are not produced for this size of timber.

Is it possible to get some photos of where you are looking to attach this timber?

The best method of attachment will depend on how it is being used.

You may be able to use Right Hand Triple Grips or Left Hand Triple Grips, or you may be able to simply skew nails or screw them.

It all depends on what the timber will be supporting and where it sits in relation to the post.

I'm happy to assist further when you can provide some further details.

Jacob

Re: joist hanger

Hi yes here’s a photo of what I’m looking to do so between the 2 black posts is where I wanted to put a cross beam so I can attach something as that’s where the rain gets through and wind I want to try and block that out as much as I can and continue it along between other posts I have already up is it possible?

Re: joist hanger

Hello @Johno1990

Please let me know if I'm looking at your posts incorrectly. It appears that they are timber, if they are, why not just install another paling panel across the gap to prevent rain from coming through. Is there a specific reason you wish to install a 70x35. If you are attaching it to the posts, Jacob's suggestion of using triple grips should work in this situation.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

See something interesting? Give it the thumbs up!

Re: joist hanger

Hi, Yes the posts are timber and the pailings are losing their shape and have bode so I’m getting rid of the top half of them, the reason I wanted to use 70x35 is I want to attach a blind from the top and go down to about just past the top of my fence and another reason why I’m getting rid of half the pailings is when we get bad windy and rainy days the water drips through the gaps and onto the deck leaving puddles on the deck

Re: joist hanger

Hi @Johno1990,

Triple grips will work in this situation.

You can attach them to the post with Pryda Timber Connector Nails 35 x 3.15mm and then attach the timber to them with the same nails.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
