I'm looking for a simple & affordable cover for my roof to fence area. Small area of 3.1m x 1.7m. I want it retractable. Not too heavy, with quick release clips on fence side so that I can roll it up on high winds & heavy rain. Currently I have a green shade cloth there which isn't waterproof. I'd like a full waterproof cover. Roof side is steel. Suggestions please 😊🙏
Hello @Giving_It_a_Go
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about adding a waterproof cover from your roof to the fence.
The closest item I could find that fits your description is the Windoware 3 x 2m Charcoal Easy Fit Awning. It is slightly longer than what you need but is not an issue as the awning is adjustable. The awning fabric by itself can handle very light rain, but I suggest using Selleys 200g Watershield Silicone Aerosol to protect the fabric from heavy rain.
Please allow us to double check with our supplier if this awning comes with a version that has waterproof fabric. As soon as we have more information, we'll get back to you. Because we are heading towards the weekend, the latest we can get back you is on Monday.
Thank you for your patience.
Eric
Hi @Giving_It_a_Go,
Were you after a retractable awning or Just a more weather resistant version of what you already have? We do have Pillar 1.8 x 10m Monument 90% UV Shade Cloth which is waterproof.
@EricL's suggestion of the Windoware awning is terrific. Although it's not entirely waterproof, it will certainly protect light drizzles. It doesn't come in a more waterproof fabric.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Yes Mitchell! That's what I'm looking for. An Awning would be too heavy I believe.
Any suggestions on how to seal the gaps from the roof to shade cloth? Something lightweight. I like the idea of roller blinds. Can I build my own? If so, how please? Thanks 😊
Hello @Giving_It_a_Go
I suggest installing a Lysaght 0.4 x 100 x 50mm 1.8m Zinc Angle as a rain deterrent where the shade cloth meets the roof structure. You might have to do some experiments in regards to creating a roller blind with shade cloth as the cover material. I believe it would be too thick and heavy if rolled into a bundle on a post.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
This is a great idea EricL. But I think it might be too heavy plus the bracket might be too big for the area.
Otherwise, this would be lovely.
Thanks 🙏 😊
Sounds great MitchellMC.
What do you suggest for a bracket from roof fascia to shade cloth to close gap from roof to shade cloth?
Hope you understand what I mean??
Lol 🤣
Appreciate that. Thanks EricL 🙏😊
Hi @Giving_It_a_Go,
Is it possible to get some photos and measurements of the fascia?
The available space is going to have some effect on the materials that can be used.
You might be able to use something like this Metal Mate 30 x 30 x 3.0mm 3m Aluminium Angle attached through the fascia into the rafters with the shade sail attached to the angle.
Let me know what you think.
Jacob
Hi JacobZ,
The Fascia area is only 7cm from top of gutter to bottom. So a very small area to screw something on. I'd like something that can go on this area with waterproof shade cloth attached or something to fence area. I'm going to set up a quick release clip on fence area was thinking even with a spring if needed. Depending on how cover is attached of course. I'd love to have an Awning but it just won't fit in this small area & besides it's not fully waterproof & possibly too heavy. I'd like something like I have already I just need waterproof & want it attached fully to fascia area so water doesn't drip through gaps. If you understand all that. I'm new at this so I appreciate everyone's help 😊🙏.
Photos attached.
If you could show me how to put together & what to use to make it, that'd be great 😃 👍
Thanks 🙏
