Re: need a lock to my side gate

Hi @MayD

I use  these fence  locks  as they are made for the outdoors and are tamper proof  to a certain  extent. Unless they carrying a hammer  as you might want a  clear perspex sheild making it hard for  them to reach in and swing at any lock.  But  even a hammer attack will be resisted.

But you will need to measure up the gap between the wall and the gate to fit a wall post to mount the lock part on to it.

You  might need a 40mm square post to give you more room.  rather than a 50mm standard post.

You will also need to make sure there is just  enough room to screw the bail arm onto the gate post as it looks  close.

Looks  like your gate swings out towards the front so you will need a lokklatch deluxe s3 gate latch as it will lock and unlock from each side and cant be hand unlocked.

With this lock drilling through the gate wall post  and trimming the through push rod is critical so follow instructions closely

Ps they do come with a spare push rod.

Re: need a lock to my side gate9l

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @MayD. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about securing a gate.

It's great to see that @Jewelleryrescue has offered some assistance. I just thought I'd add that if you only need to secure the gate so your baby can't push it open, then perhaps the simplest solution would be to add a cabin hook or a padbolt. You'll find the steel of that gate is solid, so it will need to be pre-drilled to accept fixings. Due to its vertical fixing holes, the cabin hook could be directly installed onto the thin metal frame. The padbolt would require you to affix a block of timber to provide a larger surface area for mounting.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
