How do i restore my outdoor table?

I bought this wooden table second hand and it obviously needs some TLC. It’s in good condition - just obviously used. I want to refresh it but have never done anything like this before. Please help! Some parts look like they are wet, but they aren’t.

Also - one of the chairs has a burn mark (pictured). Any advice on how to restore that?

Re: How do i restore my outdoor table?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mwood. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about restoring furniture.

To start restoring your outdoor table, we’ll need to figure out if it's made from timber or a composite plastic-based material. It’s a bit tricky to tell from the photos, but the burn mark on the chair has a melted quality to it, which makes me think it might be made from a plastic or composite material. If that’s the case, sanding and painting may not give the best results since plastic doesn’t always take paint well, and sanding could leave an uneven surface.

If the table and chairs are timber, you can refresh them by sanding down the surfaces to remove any staining or imperfections. Once sanded, you can apply a new coat of paint to the surfaces. If they’re plastic, the options for restoration are more limited, and you might just need to try cleaning them.

To confirm if it's timber or plastic, check the burn mark on the chair. If it looks melted rather than just scorched, it’s likely plastic. Once we know that, I can offer more specific advice on how to restore it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
