Re: How to build a Breeze block wall?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Denjdav. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a breeze block wall.

You'd likely need to install another post right where the balustrade turns into the handrail for the stairs. That will allow you to build the breeze block wall between the house wall and the post. This provides attachment points preventing the wall from being able to be pushed over.

Adding a breeze block wall to the stairs will be significantly more difficult and should be left to a professional unless you have experience in this area. As it's a staggered-height area over the stairs, having the blocks line up correctly might not be possible. If the height of the block were the same as the stair rise, the installation would become easier. Remember that a handrail might still be necessary to comply with building codes.

Breeze blocks are traditionally bedded in with mortar when attached to a surface. They have great compressive force but are susceptible to shear or sideways force. That's why you'll often see them constructed between two solid posts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
