How do I repair large Linestone bricks

Hi, All. We have these Pillars built out of what I assume are large limestone bricks, and some of them seem to be disintegrating, eroding away, especially at the bottom. I'm unsure of the cause. Anyway, I need to try to fix this and would appreciate any advice on what to use and how best to go about it. No doubt I'd like to try keep the same or similar colour & texture if I'm to "plaster" it up so it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb

Thank you in advance

Re: How do I repair large Linestone bricks

Hi @darrenh,

Thank you for your question about repairing damaged limestone bricks.

You should start by cleaning the surface to remove as much loose material as possible. I'd suggest using soapy water and a scrubbing brush.

Once clean, you can use either Mortafil Pale Limestone Mortar or Mortafil Limestone Mortar. The filler is visible in the tube, so select the one that most closely matches your limestone bricks in colour.

Apply the filler to the brick, then smooth it over with a Kango 150mm Stainless Joint Knife so that it follows the contours of the brick as closely as possible.

Once smoothed, allow it to dry for around a minute, then use a damp sponge to blot the filler and create some texture to match the surroundings.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
