Hello
I cannot get my umbrella to fold down!
It folds halfway then goes up again!
So the winding cord must be OK!
It is 2 years out of Warranty@
Help Please!
Gary
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @gjolliffe. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for the questions about your Mimosa cantilever outdoor umbrella.
It would be difficult for our members to be able to identify the exact issue with your umbrella, but it sounds like the mechanism is bound up somehow. Are there any obvious areas where the cord looks to be jammed or parts that appear broken? The fact that it is able to go back up into position indicates that as you are winding it down, there is tension being created in the mechanism and so much so that it can pull the canopy back up. Typically that requires cranking the handle to expand the arms.
Without further investigation and possibly disassembling the winding mech, then I'd suggest it won't be easy to fix the issue. I'd encourage you to try and trace the winding cord to see if there are any hang ups or if it's become wrapped around something.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell, Thanks for the advice!
The cord is tangle free up to the top pulley and the guide!
I have tried gently pulling the cord in the half down position but there is no movement!
I presume the cord has slipped or tangled in the winding system!
Is there a diagram for the assembly?
Thanks
Gary
Hi @gjolliffe
Would it be possible for you to post a photo of your Mimosa cantilever umbrella? This will give our members a chance to assess the umbrella. We can then make recommendations on possible ways to untangle the cord.
If you need a hand posting the photo, please let me know.
Eric
Hi @gjolliffe
Any chance the rope is slipping "over" as you wind = which means as you continue to wind in the same direction the canopy reverses direction?
But it doesn't seem possible as the cover has a concave female connection? Well, mine does.
However my rope isn't the original - this is orthopaedic rope used for fractured femur traction.
3rd photo is upside down!
Hi @gjolliffe
Thank you for posting those photos of your outdoor umbrella. Have you tried to pull the rope while turning the winder? Perhaps if you turn the winder in reverse while pulling the rope it might loosen up whatever is tangling it. It looks like it has a secondary arm, does it slide up and down the main post or is it fixed in place? Can I bother you for a photo of the winding arm with the entire umbrella included?
At this point in time, I can only suggest trying to loosen up the rope. When the winder becomes free it should let you fold the umbrella down.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Thanks for your effort guys its fixed!
I wound it to its full extent It was about 2cm short of going into the top female pipe but would not wind any further! I then wound it down till it stopped closing!
Then I gathered the umbrella to close it by hand at the same time my wife moved the winding mechanism 1 hole down! I let go of the umbrella and it wound right down! Dont know how but it worked!!!!
Thanks very much!
Gary
Hello @gjolliffe
It's great to hear that you've figured out the closing steps to your outdoor umbrella.
Just keep those three steps in mind:
If you run into any other issues with the umbrella, please let us know.
