I have quite a large limestone retaining wall and a lot of limestone around my property. However the previous owner didn’t take care of it and a large amount of it is weather damaged. How can I repair the looks of the limestone wall. I’d like to put a vine on it eventually but first things first which is to repair it. Any advice ?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @davem. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a limestone wall.
The wall appears in reasonably good condition, with no signs of decomposition. Was it predominantly the discolouration that you'd like to fix?
Cleaning a limestone wall requires careful attention because limestone is a soft, porous stone that can be easily damaged by harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning methods. I would suggest using a soft brush or broom to remove any loose dirt and debris. Next, prepare a cleaning solution by mixing warm distilled water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Avoiding acidic cleaners is important, as these can damage the limestone. Apply the solution to the wall, working in small sections. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the wall in small sections, ensuring the solution reaches all crevices of the rough texture. Rinse each section thoroughly with clean distilled water to remove any soap residue.
